We are proud to announce that our student Selvi. Pooja Shankar has stood District First in the X std. Matric. Board Examination 2009-10 securing 482/500. We are overwhelmed to state, this is our fifth batch producing cent percent results consecutively. Out of the 73 appeared we got 45 - Distinction, 23-First Class & 5-Second Class.

Natyaanjali Programme
Sharadhalaya – A Cultural Wing of Dr. GSK
We were invited for the Natyaanjali Programme organised in Thyagarajarswamy Temple, Tiruvarur on 15th March 2010. Seven of our students from both Dr. G.S.Kalyanasundaram Matric. Hr. Sec. School and Dr. G.S. Kalyanasundaram Memorial School participated in the programme. Our art education teachers were part of the programme. This programme was dedicated to all the audience and well wishers who had come to view the programme. Each one of our students and the art education teachers were honoured and appreciated. The 20 minutes programme included.

Blood Donation Awareness Programme
Every year the 4th of April is termed to be a very important, for, we have a blood donation camp in our medical centre. Keeping this in mind we had organised a Blood Donation Awareness Programme in Therazandur village on 13th March 2010. A set of students (NCC, Scouts & Guides) with the guidance of teachers had been to the village and spoke to the people of Theranzadur telling them about the benefits and usefulness of donating blood. We believe in “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. We were given our opportunity to clean a temple called “Aamaruviappan Temple”. This is a very big ancient temple. Our students took initiative and around 50 of them cleaned with their fullest effort for nearly 5 hours.

12th National Science Olympiad results
12th National Science Olympiad results are declared. We are proud to announce that our students have performed extremely well especially the students of class II, VII & XI. We are happy that the school average is higher than the national average. For all other classes it is close to the national average.
Nagapattinam District Level Mini Marathon was held on 25th February 2010 in Mayiladuthurai. Nearly 4,000 students participated and we are proud to announce that T. Dinesh Kumar of VIII “B” participated and he is in the 20th position

Kids Fest
It was Eighth Kids Fest. It was celebrated with great pomp and show and indeed a colorful evening. We had students from LKG to II std. to entertain us. There were number of programmes. Mrs. Vrinda Ramanan, Director, Bala Kala Vidhanam, Trichy was the Chief Guest. Our chairman and all the management members were present. We had programmes like Sanskrit Slokas, English skit, Rhymes, Dance, Drama etc. The highlight of the day was the Dance Drama “jpUQhdrk;ge;jh;”. Nearly 310 students took part and it was a non-stop progamme for 20 minutes. All those who were present on that day had all praises for us and blessed our students.

Annual Day
This is our decennial year. Students from III to XII were there to entertain. Every year we choose a theme and this year it is “Endaro Mahanu Bhavalu, Andariki Vandanamu”. Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi, Managing Director, M/s Vijayalakshmi Hi-Tech Solutiion P Ltd. Madurai was the Chief Guest for the evening. Our chairman and all the management members were present. The Annual Celebrations included a number of interesting programmes. During the year, we have covered programmes on different concepts like education, nationalism, literature, society, philanthropy, divinity, fine arts and for this annual day we have focused on religion and great philosophers like Aadi Shankara, Sekhlzar, Manikavasakar, Thirumangai Alzhavar, Gowthama Buddha, Lord Jesus Christ and Allah and the title of the dance drama was “rkaq;fSk; rhd;nwhh;fSk;”. Nearly 400 students participated and it was a non-stop programme for 40 minutes. It was a memorable evening. All those who were present on that day appreciated and blessed the students.

The Bharath Scouts & Guides, Tamil Nadu.
Ours is a school situated in a village (Pazhaya Gudalur) in Mayiladuthurai. We are extremely happy that our school has the maximum number of scouts and gudies. In turn we are proud of our school and feel delighted to announce that in the whole of Tamil Nadu, our district is in the third position.
Mayiladuthurai Educational District Association had organised a Two-day District Annual Camp on 6th and 7th February 2010 at Thiagi G. Narayanasamy Municipal Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuthurai. 35 of our students participated in this camp and won a number of prizes in the various competitions. We stood first in singing (National Integration Songs), first aid & knots. We got third in the camp fire and got a shield. A special shield was given to our school in appreciation for having sent the maximum students for the Rajya Puraskhar Award.
Four of our students have successfully qualified and will be receiving their Rastrapathi Award in the near future.

The class was observed by Dr. Rajaganesan, Principal and a set of teachers. In the evening between 4.15-5.00 p.m a feedback session was arranged. Dr. Rajaganesan, Principal, Mr. Muralidharan were present. The teachers were first asked to give their positive and negative observations. Thereafter Dr. Rajaganesan gave his views and areas of improvement.Mr. Muralidharan complimented the teachers.
Orientation Programme
An Orientation programme was held on the 30th January 2010 between 9.30-12.30. Our Chairman, Trustee, Dr. Rajaganesan, Principal and all the teachers were present. This was basically to improve the communication skill among the teachers. The teachers were divided into groups and were asked for self-introduction. The teachers were judged based on their confidence, fluency and articulation. Then there was an audio-visual display of news from famous news channels like NDTV, Doordarshan etc. The teachers were asked to keenly observe and give their views. Thereafter, they were asked to read or speak on a topic of their choice, it was more like an extempore. Around 6-8 teachers came forward and tried to incorporate all the features. Dr. Rajaganesan corrected and suggestions for improving themselves were given. It was a helpful session

Republic Day cum Annual Sports Meet
Annual Sports Day and Republic day was celebrated on 26th January 2010 with great pomp and show. Dr. G. Ravindran, Professor, Dept. of Physical Education Science, Annamalai University, Chidambaram was the chief guest. Our Chairman, Trustee Mr. Muralidharan, Mentor Mr. G. Balasubramanian, Mr. Bose, Hockey Coach, Mr. V. Bhaskan and Mr. Thyagarajan, Phyicals Directors, Director Mr. K. Sadagopan, Advisor Mrs. Usha Natarajan were present. As part of the decennial year celebration we had Tree Planting Programme. Around 70 saplings were planted in the four acre ground by the dignitaries, parents, people from Gudalur and teaching and non teaching staff. Colourful display of Mass Drill was appreciated by all. Track and field events were conducted and lot of medals, trophies and certificates were distributed.
Overall championship was bagged by the Red House and the runners were the Blue House

NCC Camp from 24th December 2009 to 2nd January 2010
Our NCC unit was inaugurated on 11th November 2009. We had the first ten days camp CATC (Combined Annual Training Camp) from 24th December 2009 to 2nd January 2010. Mrs. Florida Kavitha is the first lady care taker in the 8 (TN) BN, Kumbakonam. 20 of our cadets attended the camp. Among these 20 cadets, 12 were boys (JD-Junior Division) and 8 were girls (JW-Junior Wing). The practical classes included firing. Our students actively participated in all the areas and won lot of prizes. A written test was conducted, in which T. Adhithyan and L. Nithesha of VIII stood first. Four of our cadets (P. Narayanan, K. Aravinda Bharathi, V. Agalya, M. Mangai of VIII std.) were selected for the firing camp TSC – Thal Sainik Camp and these students will be given special training on the 30th and 31st of January 2010. Our girls got the first place in the group song in the cultural programme and layout (Room Arrangement & Cleanliness)

Science Expo – 2009
" Soil to Sun "
Dr.G.S.Kalyanasundaram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pazhaya Gudalur organised a science Exhibition titled “Soil to Sun” on 04.12.2009 and 05.12.2009.
On 04.12.2009 the exhibition was inaugurated by Shri.S.Subramhaniyam, Divisional Manager, Southern Railways, Trichi and he presented a valuable speech on need for scientific knowledge. Then he witnessed the projects. Nearly 200 students exhibited more than 100 models. Their projects were based on the Topics Agriculture, Health, Medical science, Advanced Medical science, Care for our Environment. We had a number of visitors from in and around Pazhaya Gudalur. The exhibition really kindled the scientific temper of the students.
On 05.12.2009, in the valedictory function Shir.K.K.Thiruvalluvan, Environmental Scientist, Tamil Nadu Pollution control Board, Cuddalore was the chief Guest, Shri S.Vaidhya Subdramaniyam, Dean – Planning & Development, SASTRA University Tanjore was the Guest of Honour. Both the guests impressed the gathering by their valuable speeches. Both the days Principal Mrs.Eswari Jayaraman welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction about the Chief Guests. Our Chairman Shri.G.K.Ramamurthy, Director Shri.K.Sadagopan, Advisor Smt.Usha Natarajan, Our Mentor Shri.G.Balasubramanian graced the function by their presence.
Every one appreciated the students for the arrangement of the projects and the explanations given. The well presented projects were given prizes.

SALANGAI POOJA
On 6th November 2009 Salangai Pooja was held in the presence of our chairman Shri.G.K.Ramamurthy. Four of our Dance Students J.Soundarya, C.Janani Srividhya, S.Ranjitha and Kanmani – were selected and they entered the first stage for being a dance professional. Our Chairman blessed them and appreciated their performance. Our Co-ordinator, Advisor, Principal and The Art Education Teachers blessed them. The parents of these students were also present and they had no words to show their gratitude.

Orientation programme for teachers held on 22nd September 2009
The first session was taken over by Dr. J. Nirmala. She addressed the teachers on the topic – Teaching Competency & Classroom Management. She gave information about the professional and personal competencies.
The second session was by Dr. Rajaganesan. He spoke to the teachers about the Instructional Design in Action Research Framework for Improving the Quality of teaching practice.
Dr. J. Nirmala took over the third session. She spoke on Guidance and Counseling.
In the afternoon there was a session on ICT (Information and Communication Technology) by Dr. S. Rajasekar.

Our students from III std. to X std. displayed their talent in Music, spellbee, essay writing, recitation in Tamil and English etc. at Dr.G.S.Kalyanasundaram Memorial School and they won the Overall Championship Shield with 225 points.

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS 5th September 2009.
Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Dr.G.S.K. Memorial School , Kumbakonam in the presence of Chairman,Trustee,Co-ordinator,Advisor and our resource person Shri.G.Balasubramanian.
Welcome dance and a skit were performed by Gudalur and Memorial school teachers. Sri K.Sadagopan, welcomed the gathering. He described the importance of having the right attitude to impart knowledge.
Shri.G. Balasubramanian (former director of CBSE) our resource person spoke on the teacher’s commitment to make the class room happy.

District Level Science Conference
The District Level Science Conference on the topic Chandrayaan – I Promises and concerns was held in our school premises on 10.08.2009. The Deputy Inspector, Mr. Saravanan was present. Students from five schools participated. J. Soundarya, Dr. G.S. Kalyanasundaram Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Pazhaya Gudalur and S.Vignesh, Vivekananda Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Sirkali were selected for the State Level Conference. The judges for this conference were Dr. T. Radhakrishnan & Mr. K. Ramasamy from Sastra, Kumbakonam and Dr. G. Vivekanandan from A.V.C, Mayiladuthurai.

One day seminar on the eve of Teachers’ Day Celebration on 04.09.09
Dr. G. S. Kalyanasundaram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pazhaya Gudalur. To commemorate the teachers, one day seminar on the eve of teachers’ day celebrations was held in the school premises on 4th September 2009. Teachers from nearly twenty well known schools from Mayiladuthurai, Thanjore and Kumbakonam participated. The Chairman of the school along with the other management members were present for the seminar. The topic chosen for the day was “Futuristic Education & Empowerment of Teachers”. The entire programme was co-ordinated by Shri G. Balasubramanian, Former Director,(Academics) CBSE, New Delhi. The Principal of the school, Smt. Eswari Jayaram welcomed the gathering and the inaugural address was given by Shri G. Balasubramanian. There were three sessions. The first session was on “Current academic challenges”, a powerpoint presentation by Dr. Vasanthi Vasudev, Educational consultant, Director (Osmosys) Chennai. The second session was on “Responsibilities for academic & holistic achievement” by Shri. G. Balasubramanian. Then the group discussion on “Action plan to equip and meet the challenges” and presentation by the teachers. The day’s story was summed up by the Chairman of the school. Memento and participation certificates were given. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Malathi Senthil Kumar, the Middle School Incharge. The seminar conducted was appreciated by all those who were present.

Independence Day celebration (15/08/09)
Independence Day celebration (15/08/09) took place in a grand manner in the presence of our principal Mrs.Eswari Jeyaraman and our advisor Mrs.Usha Natarajan, Thiyagi Thilakar was the chief guest of the function. Our students gave speech about Independence Day and a mass past and mass drill cum dance was conducted.

Decennial Year celebrations.
The year long celebration was inaugurated on 19/7/2009. It was inaugurated by planting saplings by Dr.M.Chidambaram , Director of NIT, Trichy in the presence of our Chairman Shri.G.K.Ramamurthy.
The theme for the whole year is “ ve;jNuh k`hD gTY me;jhpf;F te;jDK”. In the inaugural function the topic choosen was Education. We have taken the eminent personalities who contributed in the field of education and a dance drama was presented.
A presentation titled “ Thirumbi Parkirom “ and the vision 2020 which portrayed our vision for the next 10 years was presented by the students and teachers.
Newsletter was released by Dr.M.Chidambaram and first copy was received by Dr.RajaGanesan.
